Elkhart.
Today as I was walking I noticed how ridiculously ugly this city is. The rivers are so polluted I swear it affects people's health. Any trees you might see along the Elkhart or St. Joseph River are tall, skinny, peeling, and graying despite them having been there for years. Patches of scraggly trees line the banks--pin straight and sickly like a German child in 1945. They grown sticking out at funny angles and that deffinitely wasn't the reason they lay fallen EVERYWHERE (those were the many chemicals). It made me imagine they hang over water and absorb the evaporation that floats up to it from the river, and the roots are only for keeping them rooted in the poor soil. Some grew straight out horizontally from the bank and curved sharply upward as if to avoid the water.
